Meet Helen Baillie-Senger

I’m Helen Baillie-Senger—a sommelier, wine educator, storyteller, and the founder of The Gilded Vine. Born in Venezuela and now rooted in Kansas City, I bring a love of culture, hospitality, and human connection to every table.

My experience spans wine retail leadership, restaurant wine programs, and distribution, with a focus on helping people discover wines they love and understand what makes them special. I hold WSET Level 2 certification with Distinction and a Level 2 sommelier qualification, and I continue to pursue advanced wine studies.

For me, wine is more than what’s in the glass. It is geography, history, craftsmanship, and memory—a way to explore the world and connect with one another. Through private tastings, thoughtful pairings, and approachable education, I make room for curiosity, conversation, and the pleasure of discovery.

That same love of storytelling guides my writing. I’m working on my memoir, The Girl Who Carried a Mountain, exploring my journey from Venezuela and the resilience, identity, and hope that have shaped my life.

The Gilded Vine brings these passions together, inviting you to learn, savor, and feel at home in the world of wine.
